When I left China, baseball was not very popular. Not very popular at all. Most people say it is too slow. However, a my Chinese Grandparents expressed interest as they have spent a lot of time in Boston with their family. Obviously, Boston is a very good place to become a baseball fan.
However, they didn’t understand all of the many rules of baseball. This is mostly due to the fact that baseball rules in Mandarin Chinese are hard to find. I know, I searched for them extensively online. And I found them. But, it wasn’t on the MLB’s website. And if the MLB wants China to become as enraptured as Boston is in baseball, they are really going to have to do some work. For starters, making the MLB.com Mandarin Chinese version.
Like everyone else, they are trying to take advantage of one billion potential consumers. But right now, Cal Ripken seems to be doing a lot of the work. He’s also helping the State Department spread happiness and diplomacy through sports according to Condi.
